Bunny Girls from Tesco Grabbit Bonus Chinese New Year

Hello friends.  It is Chinese New Year festive shopping frenzy everywhere.  Most shopping malls are having sales and promotion. I was at Seberang Jaya, Penang when I saw the bunny girls giving out the goodies and shopping vouchers to the public as they are promoting the sales at Tesco in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year of the Rabbit.  There are twelve animals in the Chinese Lunar Calendar Years which begin with Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Cockerel, Dog and Pig.  The grandmother stories have it that the animals kingdom organized a race for all the animals and the first twelve animals which finish the race will be represented in the Chinese Lunar Year in cycle.  So the rat finished first and so on.  In running the race, the cat was knocked out from the race by the rat and as you know it, the rat and cat are enemies.  Just like the cartoons Tom and Jerry.  As for the Rabbit, it reminded me of the cartoon Bug Bunny.

Anyway, that is just my little spin on the story. As a kid, Chinese New Year is the most wonderful time because I get to collect money from the elders and married couples and relatives who would stash the cash into red packets or small red envelopes as a blessing gifts.  The cash are usually new currency notes.  There were new coins too.  Those were the days.  Now, if you ever get coins in the red packets, the receiver would be thinking that givers are miser and stingy because the standard and cost of living have gone up.

In present commercial world, there are good looking and kind people like the pretty bunny girls who are thought to be associated with Playboy going around towns stripping naked red packets and giving out the shopping cash vouchers and goodies.  These bunnies are from Tesco which traveled throughout the country of Malaysia to promote the Chinese New Year shopping theme G-R-A-B-B-I-T Bonus.  The guy who is surrounded by the honey bunnies is not the founder Mr Hugh Hefner, he is Bigfoothill's new found acquaintance, Mr Darren from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  He and his team members came in Mercedes Benz to Seberang Jaya as there is a Tesco outlet there.  By the way, at Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Tesco just opened its branch there last year in last quarter of 2010.

To you guys and bunnies, have fun and grab your Chinese New Year Bonus. Wishing you safe journey home to be with your family for reunion dinner and the festive holidays.

Workers helping to clear up

After the fire was put under control the next day after more than 12 hours, there were still smokes coming out from the heaps of burnt items.  The Fire Services Department deployed their teams and two fire engines to the scene on standby and still pumping water into the three units of shop-house selling toys that were destroyed by the fire.  During the fire, there were at least 15 units of fire engines and support vehicles such as skylifts and at least 100 firemen from the Voluntary Fire Units from the various towns in Penang, and nearby Parit Buntar and Lunas fighting the fire along with the Fire Services Department teams.

The proprietor of the building and business were there with a group of workers and helpers salvaging whatever assets they could.  The elected representatives of the constituency and the State Executive Office for welfare, Mr Tan Cheong Teong and Mr Phee Boon Poh were seen visiting the sites and spoke to the Fire Department Investigating Officers and showed their sympathy and concerns for the business proprietor.

The fire is very destructive and can be seen from here that assets were destroyed.  In order to prevent fire, everyone has to be mindful of the safety in our workplace and most importantly at our home.  Prevention is better than fire-fighting. Educating the young ones right from our youngest family members are crucial.  So remember, DO NOT PLAY WITH FIRE which is the warning and advice which our parents instilled in us.

Clearing up the mess after the fire is dangerous as there are many broken glasses and sharp metal objects and debris strewn all over the places.  The smoke and gases emitted are hazardous to our health and body. Safety precautions have to be taken by the salvage workers and helpers.

The losses through fire accidents and destruction are huge not only in terms of monetary values but also the loss of jobs and loss of lives too as a consequence of the fire. It goes beyond the the physical loss as there are people who were injured and left with fire burnt marks and scars permanently on their body to remind them of their misfortunes.  The worst situation are the people who suffer from trauma and phobia when they escaped from such accidents. I sympathize with the victims of fire and related misfortunes.

There are many heroic stories we heard about firemen rescuing properties and human lives like the ones who sacrificed their very own lives to save others such as the incidents during the September 11 attacks in the United States of America some years ago.

The financial losses due to fire can be mitigated by the business proprietors by taking up comprehensive Fire Insurance policy for commercial goods and stock assets, machinery and equipment, office equipment, furniture, fixture and fittings, building properties.
Individuals house owners can insure the home building by taking up House-owner insurance policy and for contents by taking a House-holder insurance policy .

In the event of a claimable accident and covered perils of the Fire Insurance Policy under, the insured can file for claims.  The submission for claims with completed essential documents will expedite claim processing by the loss adjusters and underwriters.

By the way, I am your local insurance agent with global insurers who can help insure your properties and assets here and abroad.  We have many risks management program to meet your needs and other financial planning tools to help you achieve your financial goals.  Our global associates can help you too if your company are operating worldwide.

Train accident in Bukit Mertajam. No one died but the Varanus Salvator cut into two

Breaking news.  The above pictures could be too violent for the faint and weak hearts. Goods train collided with a local resident, Varanus Salvator or Malayan water monitor lizard at Bukit Mertajam on December 13, 2010.  Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) was at the scene on that beautiful Monday afternoon to record and investigate the death. It was a local resident of the habitat near the 10.5 km Bukit Mertajam-Butterworth Railway track. Apparently the local authority ruled out suicide or foul play as the motive since there were no evidence or elements to suggest so.  The monitor lizard was about 1 meter long and weighed 2.0 kg approximately. It is of the common specie found common in Malaysia and also a common roadkill.

The causes of death are attributed to :
1) The Monitor lizard was crossing the line when the goods train was coming to Town around 4.30 pm local time.
2) The habitat of the monitor lizard have been disturbed by the Malaysian Electric Train Double Tracking Railway project which caused the wildlife to be dislocated and disoriented.
3) The monitor lizard was trespassing and ignored the warning of the oncoming goods train.

File closed.  May our Varanus Salvator R.I.P.

Angela the Diva Singer and Beauty Queen Miss Malaysia Tourism 2008 live concert at Kota Permai, Bukit Mertajam

Hope you remember my post on the temple of the Big Rock at Kota Permai.  It is the show time cum party time in celebration of the sending off of the 'gods" to heaven to meet up the god of heaven at the end of the Tiger year at most temples and hope that they will report your good deeds throughout the year that when they come back to earth on the Chinese Lunar Year of the Rabbit, they will give you a good head start for the year.  There was a daily Chinese opera show for the last couple of days before the last two days where the temple of the Big Rock have the "现场演唱会" or Live Concert was held.  Temporary food-stalls were plenty selling the hawker foods and deserts and toys.

I went home after a Chinese New Year 2011 dinner hosted by an insurance company at nearby famous  restaurant in town. As I was passing by the Big Rock temple, the concert was held at its compound and there were big crowds daily but tonight being the last night of the event, there are exceptionally more people.  The new generations like the concert more than the Chinese Opera. The young ones are not keen to watch the operas as partly due to the language spoken are a little different from the normal conversation you can be labeled  as old folks as many senior citizens are the main group of audience at opera show.

I liked the musical concert more than the opera in my younger days then. I had a great opportunity to practice video recording of the show by the singers.

Wow..I quickly went home and grab my handy cam to record the show when singer Angela was performing her songs together with the Crystal dancers.  Fantastic performance by Angela. Very energetic and lively as she engaged the audience with her sweet conversations. Later, her chaperon who is also her mother was seen promoting her albums and handed out her postcard picture to her fans.  I recommend you to get her albums which also come in two-in-one as there is a CD and a Video CD.  I got one myself and enjoy listening to it and watch her music video.

By the way, Angela is Miss Malaysia Tourism 2008 Winner and she won a host of other beauty titles to her credits.  She is a lovely lady, a beauty queen, a singing artiste and a superstar Diva. Viva Diva Angela.

See her perform live here.
